He was born in Alabama in 1857, but moved to Cartersville, GA when he was nine. His first Methodist Circuit, in 1872, was the Van Wert Circuit in Polk County. As his fame grew, he spoke at revivals throughout the eastern United States and Canada. He also spoke to packed houses in California. At the time of his death in 1906, he was evangelizing throughout the entire U.S. The two diaries are his wife's. One diary is a complete one for 1891, and one is a partial for 1896. The photographs are of Sam Jones, his family, and his house. There is an original Certificate of Acceptance from the Masons (1875).
