Barnsley suffered financial losses during the Civil War. Afterwards his daughter Julia Baltzell and her husband ran the property. His granddaughter, Addie Saylor, later took over the property from her mother. These letters are to Addie Saylor and other Barnsley descendants. The two to Addie Saylor refer to family financial affairs. The letter to Harry Saylor is from his "big sister Blanche."
