William Harrell Felton

William Harrell Felton Born: 6-19-1823, Lexington, GA

Elected to Congress in 1871, Felton became the leader of the Independent party movement following the Civil War, and later served as a representative from Bartow County to the state legislature. An outstanding orator and formidable debater, Felton embraced prohibition, championed prison reform, and battled successfully for a bill to improve education funding. Licensed as a Methodist minister in 1848, Felton served as a popular preacher in Bartow County for almost fifty years.
