The Etowah Valley Historical Society invites you to join us in helping to promote and enhance the awareness and preservation of the heritage and traditions of Bartow County. Membership is open to any person, partnership, firm, association, organization, club, or corporation interested in helping us attain our goals. Benefits include a lecture series with noted speakers on the topics of local history and preservation; periodic dinner meetings in homes or at places known for their historic and/or architectural value; assistance with historic research and technical assistance with placement procedures on the National Register; opportunity to pursue genealogical studies; a bi-monthly newsletter with researched articles of local historic interest; and much more...

EVHS schedules Regular Lecture Series with noted speakers on local history and preservation. Past lecturers have included: Joe Head, author of The General: The Great Locomotive Dispute; Dr. Todd Groce, Executive Director of the Georgia Historical Society; and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Historian, Carl Etheridge.

Periodically, EVHS holds Dinner Meetings in Historic Homes or at places known for their historic and/or architectural value. The 1850s Hardy-Watkins Home in Cassville, Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, and Roselawn in Cartersville have all hosted memorable dinners for our members.

EVHS houses an ever-expanding Library of Books and Research Material on local and regional history which is available to the community. Maintained by member volunteers, our library and research facility include many primary sources, special collections, and books by local authors.

EVHS, with the EVHS Family Tree Climbers, offers opportunities to pursue genealogical studies through our many resources and the cataloguing of local cemeteries in Bartow County. Census material and family histories are also available.

EVHS publishes a Quarterly Newsletter with photographs and researched articles of local historic interest, as well as news and activities of the Society. EVHS also publishes historic classics long out of print or new scholarship.

EVHS Volunteers take an active role in preserving, restoring, and maintaining the rich history and diverse traditions of our county's past. The Allatoona Pass Battlefield Restoration Project allowed members hands-on experience in the restoration of a significant battle site of the Civil War and tremendous pride in its importance, not only to our community's history, but to our nation's heritage.
