The 1903 Bartow County Courthouse was designed by Kenneth McDonald and Co, an architect firm from Louisville, Kentucky well known for their courthouse and jailhouse designs. James W. Golucke, prominent in the Atlanta area, served as the associate architect.
Constructed in Neoclassical, Revival-style using brick, stone, iron, and terra cotta, the courthouse features a "gold" domed clock tower and Corinthian pillared entrances on two sides. Contractors for the project were local builders Robert and Eugene Smith, the talented father and son team responsible for erecting many of the government buildings, churches, and private homes in Cartersville and Bartow County. The courthouse served the county for ninety years, until 1993 when the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Center was erected nearby. |
| In 1994 county officials generously granted use of three rooms on the first floor of the old courthouse to EVHS. As our society grew, so did our responsibilities, and in 1999 EVHS acquired two more rooms which were developed into a Meeting Room and Executive Office. |  The EVHS Library |

| Today our library consists of over 400 volumes of local and regional history which we make available to researchers, each one cataloged by the Bartow County Library and accessible through their
Online Electronic Library Catalog. Many of our records are on microfilm, and two microfilm readers are available for researchers, one with copying capabilities. A Xerox copier is also available.
In addition to these resources, EVHS makes available the many family histories, private publications, articles, and papers contributed to our archives by researchers who use our facilities and those wishing to safeguard their historical and genealogical research. |

Staffed by volunteers ready to assist visitors with their research, the EVHS Gold Dome Courthouse Office is open Tuesday through Friday, 1:30-4:30 p.m., 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, 1:00-4:30 p.m. NOTE: Our office is manned by volunteers, therefore it is advisable to call (770-606-8862) to be sure that the office is open before making a trip to the Gold Dome Courthouse. |
